The Grumpy Editor wants you!

(so do his slightly less grumpy editorial cohorts)

We are looking for people to write articles for the weekly edition, the benefits for us are obvious, but the benefits to our authors may be less so. Here are a few:

  • Fame — people will recognize your writing style at parties
  • Fortune — well, there is a bit of money involved
  • Promote your favorite projects — our readers are interested
  • Hone your writing skill — that grumpy guy won't let you get away with much
  • Looks good on a resume — ask Jake, it got him a job recently

Our focus is on "newsy" pieces, things that have some direct or nearly direct tie to some recent event or occurence. We do sometimes run features, but it is much lower priority.

We are always looking for high-quality articles on a variety of topics, here are some ideas:

  • Front page:
    • News affecting Linux or Free Software
    • Conference coverage
    • Interesting new projects
    • New directions for older projects
    • Previews of significant releases of free software tools
    • Embedded Linux device reviews
  • Security:
    • New exploits and/or vulnerabilities
    • New security tools
    • Techniques for avoiding security problems, especially recent problems
    • Policies or legislation affecting electronic privacy
  • Kernel:
    • Patches recently submitted or accepted
    • New hardware support
    • Development process issues
    • Discussions of interesting kernel-space APIs
  • Distributions:
    • Reviews of new or interesting distributions
    • Trends in desktop, server, embedded or other distributions
    • Distribution governance
  • Development:
    • Reviews of new projects or significant releases of older ones
    • Up and coming languages

If you are interested, please have a look at our Author Guidelines. If the pay didn't scare you off, and you still are interested, please contact us via authors-AT-lwn.net.
